“The first runner-up is Colombia,” he went on, “Miss Universe 2015 is Philippines.”

Hearing her name Miss Philippines, Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach stunned for a moment. The perplexed winner walked slowly to center stage where a former Miss Universe quickly removed the crown from Arevalo and placed it on Wurtzbach.

While the pageant ended moments later the right contestant was crowned, #MissUniverse2015 became the biggest trend of the time at social media.

How the World Reacted at the Controversy…

After apologizing at the live event, the comedian and host took to his Twitter account to take the responsibility for what has been done at the finale.

Steve wrote, “I’d like to apologize wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia & Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible.” He further tweeted, “I don’t want to take away from this amazing night and pageant. As well as the wonderful contestants. They were all amazing.”

Harvey also apologized to viewers for the disappointment.

In a wake of this controversy, Donald Trump who sold his stake in the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants three months ago to a giant entertainment company WME/IMG suggested naming Miss Columbia and Miss Philippines ‘co-winners’.

“I’ll tell you what I think I’d do. I think I’d make ’em a co-winner. It’d be very cool,” said Trump at NBC’s ‘Today’ show.

The Controversy is not over yet…

In another version of the crowning mistake controversy, a seven-second behind the scene video shows that the wrong name declared due to someone at the backstage. In the video, Harvey points at unidentified person saying, “The teleprompter said Miss Universe – Colombia.” Posted on Miss Universe Snapchat channel, the video is no longer available there. However, multiple users including Miss Albama Meg McGuffin shared it.

Moreover, just in time when we thought the firestorm surrounding the beauty pageant is dying down, one of the Miss Universe 2015 contestants Miss Germany Sarah-Lorraine Riek showed her disappointment with who ended up with the crown. In an interview with Missology Miss Germany said that she couldn’t believe Wurtzbach took the crown home. For her Miss France was the real winner and Miss Columbia was equally deserving. Riek said other Miss Universe 2015 candidates have similar reactions because none of them voted for Miss Philippines. They don’t even stepped in to congratulate Pia.
